Free In-home Display (IHD) Installation for Victorians
The Victoria government offers free in-home display installations under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program. It helps residents save money on electricity consumption. All households qualify for a free In-home display installation if you meet the below criteria:
1) You have a residential property, and you haven’t already installed an In-home display. Commercial properties are not eligible for free In-home display installation.
2) Your electricity meter is located within 50 meters of your residential building.
3) You are a registered property owner.
What is an In-home display electricity monitor?
In-home display (IHD) or energy usage monitor is a portable device used with a smart meter. The device visualizes your energy consumption in the form of graphs or charts on your smartphone or computer.
It allows you to track your power usage in real-time, on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis. It offers complete control over your daily or monthly energy usage. With an In-home display, Victorian households can get real-time energy usage and consumption cost feedback. As a result, this allows households to become more aware of their energy consumption habits and therefore facilitates energy savings.
WHY SHOULD I INSTALL ONE?
After installing an in-home display, you can easily track when to run the power-hungry appliances (during low electricity demand) or turn them off or lower the usage when demand is high
HOW IT WORKS?
- The VEU Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) provides financial incentives to install energy efficient equipment and appliances in VEU households.
- Energy saving certificates or ESC (pronounced “esky”) is created by an Accredited Certificate Provider (ACP) for each one notional Megawatt hour (MWh) of energy saved by the project.
- The Mandatory Scheme Participants i.e. Electricity Retailers obtain and surrender these certificates to meet their own legislated targets, as enforced by the Victorian Government.
- There is no catch, just avail the Government Incentive and enjoy reductions in your electricity bills!
